Dressmaking courses @ the DIY Sewing Studio with Carol Eves in Scarborough
Learn everything you need to know about making clothes, from the absolute beginner to the more advanced techniques in a small friendly setting with expert personal tuition.
Learn to design in your own unique style using colours and textures you love, to transform your wardrobe and achieve a perfect fit.
Course content includes
- Advice on developing your own design skills and ideas; how to select fabrics and begin using commercial dress patterns.
- Learn why you’ll need to take a comprehensive list of measurements and adjust patterns in order to make a perfectly fitting garment.
- Learn to use basic tools and machinery
- Learn a range of hand and machine sewing techniques with tricks of the trade to help make your first project to a high standard.
10 week Dressmaking Courses commence in January, April and September
and a 2 week (10 half day sessions) Summer School in August.
Beginners’ courses are suitable for adults of all ages and run Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday Morning and Evenings. I also run a group for teenagers and an after school kids club.
Day workshops take place on Saturdays for specific projects eg. Bag making; Applique; Aprons; Upcycle , Alter and Adapt; Lampshade making ; Hat Making and a Masterclass in Pockets. See below for dates and prices.
A “Get to know your Sewing Machine” session will help you to get that new machine out of the box and start your new hobby, perhaps leading to a passion of a lifetime.

Once you have selected the course or workshop you require and I have confirmed the availability, a completed registration form and a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total cost is required to book your place.
Full payment is required as soon as possible but at the latest 5 working days before the start of the course. If this is not received the place will be re-advertised.
If total payment has been made, refunds (minus deposit) will only be given if cancellation is earlier than 5 working days before the course start date.
